THE FOOD MILL
Grand Bakery's production bakery is co-located above the Food Mill in Oakland's Laurel neighborhood. Unlike most things, the Food Mill is older than Grand Bakery!
The Food Mill is a hidden gem natural grocery store featuring a large bulk section, choice produce, nutritional supplements and house-made, fresh nut butters that are simply the best-in-town.
John Dennis opened the Food Mill in 1933, the same year construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge.
Dennis ran the store for 50 year before handing the reins to the Watkins family. Kirk and Dan Watkins have been running the Food Mill for more than 20 years.
In 2017 Grand Bakery moved into the bakery facility inside the Food Mill upstairs on the second floor. We stock our products at the Food Mill sometimes as often as three times per day. Pre-orders for pickup will be available from a designated pickup table.

Bagels in the Freezer Section?
Our authentic NY style bagels are boiled, loaded with seeds, and baked to perfection. As soon as they cool, we slice and flash-freeze them for optimal storage. Say goodbye to stale bagels forever! Fresh bagels dry out and harden within a matter of days. By flash-freezing, bagels keep for 4-6 months. Pop them directly from the freezer into the toaster for the freshest possible bagel experience at home. If you've found a better way to enjoy bagels at home, we want to know about it...seriously, let us know!
